Matroshka
March 26, 2008
Before moving to Boston, I had never lived in an old house. Since, I’ve come to love these old converted single family homes that now contain as many as four apartments. Yes, there are drawbacks–lack of central a/c, closet space, and, well, space in general to be honest. But I love the hardwood floors, original molding, bay windows, and even the ornamented radiators. The challenge is working with your small space and I’m constantly looking for storage solutions. Recently, I stumbled upon a really intriguing compact living concept, Matroshka, so-called after the Russian nesting dolls.
There are sooooo many more possible combinations…there’s even a bed somewhere in there! I would love to live the kind of paired down lifestyle that the Matroshka concept suggests, but for now I’m still trying to figure out where to put all of my shoes…
