Week One went by really fast and I think the apartment’s almost ready for some new furniture. Getting all of my things organized has been really hard because I just don’t have nearly enough storage. Although I’m a huge pack rat, I’ve made some progress by putting aside boxes of clothes, books, and shoes I’m going to get rid of. These are the beginnings of my “Outbox.”
Week Two’s assignments include:
- Fix one thing in your apartment yourself.
- Clean your kitchen from top to bottom and throw away old food.
- Buy a water filter and use it.
- Run your hands over every wall in your apartment.
- Clear space for an Outbox.
- Clear one surface and use the Outbox.
- Buy fresh flowers.
- Determine your style.
- Find a new recipe and cook one meal at home.
- Choose the date for your housewarming Guitar Hero party.
- The brilliant thing about having an Outbox is that it’s low commitment. For example, you can put something in your Outbox, sit on it for a week, and take it back out if you decide to keep it. The idea is that once you free up some extra space, you’ll realize that you don’t really need the things you’ve put in aside. As you can see, my hallway is being completely taken over by my Outbox.

Once you start getting rid of stuff it becomes an addiction! I have gone from packrack to ruthless – and feel so much better. By week 4 or 5 you’ll pick up momentum =)
